Η ιστιοπλοΐα, η αναψυχή και το παιχνίδι στην θάλασσα, βελτιώνουν την υγεία - τόσο την ψυχική όσο και την σωματική. Διδάσκουν σημαντικά μαθήματα ζωής για το σεβασμό και τη συνεργασία. Προωθούν την ισότητα για όλους και γεφυρώνουν τις διαφορές μεταξύ των ανθρώπων.

Μέχρι τώρα, οι διακοπές και οι δραστηριότητες με ιστιοπλοϊκά σκάφη απευθύνονται κυρίως στους ανθρώπους από 25-45 ετών, χωρίς μικρά παιδιά, χωρίς προβλήματα στην όραση ή την ακοή, στους σωματικά ικανούς.

Η εταιρεία μας, γνωρίζοντας την θεραπευτική και την «κοινωνικοποιητική» αξία της αναψυχής, στο πλαίσιο της δραστηριότητας της για τη δημιουργική αξιοποίηση του ελεύθερου χρόνου των ανθρώπων μεγαλύτερης ηλικίας, των ανθρώπων με ανικανότητες ή αναπηρίες, όσων είναι παραδοσιακά αποκλεισμένοι από αυτές τις δραστηριότητες, προσφέρει σε συνεργασία με αθλητικούς συλλόγους και με αναγνωρισμένους εκπαιδευτές, «Ιστιοπλοϊκές Εξορμήσεις» από τον Μάιο μέχρι τον Οκτώβριο κάθε χρόνου.

Στόχοι του προγράμματος αυτού είναι η αξιοποίηση του ελεύθερου χρόνου όλων των ανθρώπων επί ίσοις όροις, η γνωριμία με τις ελληνικές θαλάσσιες ομορφιές, η ανακάλυψη εναλλακτικών τρόπων διακοπών, η εκπαίδευση και η δημιουργία ενδιαφερόντων για την ενασχόληση τους με αθλητικές δραστηριότητες, όπως αυτή της ιστιοπλοΐας.

Όσοι συμμετάσχουν θα έχουν την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσουν τρόπους και δυνατότητες να ξεφύγουν από την καθημερινότητα, να απαλλαγούν έστω και για λίγο από το περιβάλλον και τα εμπόδια της πόλης, αλλά και να δημιουργήσουν φιλίες και γνωριμίες, καλλιεργώντας αξίες όπως αυτές της ομαδικότητας και της άμιλλας.

Welcome to the Sailing Charters for All MCPY (SC4A), a unique company that aims to promote the integration of people of all physical abilities through the challenge and adventure of sailing. The “SC4A” owns and operates five sailing boats, “Sabaudia Prima”, “Solis Invictis”, “Hellas1-Autonomia”, “Elisa” and “Papazafs”. These sailing boats have been purpose-designed and built to enable a crew of mixed physical abilities to sail side by side on equal terms.

Take on the sailing challenge with us: whether it’s a short hop around the Peloponnesian coast and the Saronic islands; or a one or two weeks Cyclades islands challenge; or a place in the Aegean Regatta Race - with the “SC4A” you can do it all.

The “SC4A” is a Greek Marine Charter company for Pleasure Yachts (MCPY) that aims to promote the integration of able-bodied and physically disabled people through adventure sailing holidays. We welcome people from all over the world onto its three specially designed sailing boats.
Each boat is able to take a voyage crew of 8, who sail alongside our professional skippers- sailing instructors. The voyage crew is divided into able-bodied and disabled voyagers, including up to two wheelchair users. To date the “SC4A” has taken well over 1500 people to sea; over 500 of them have been disabled and nearly 50 of those have been wheelchair users. Our boats have been designed with many special features, ensuring that everyone on board is able to take a full and active part in the running of the vessel

We welcome people from all over the world to enjoy our three specially designed sailing yachts.
Each boat is able to take a sailing crew of 6, who will sail with our professional skippers/sailing instructors/hostesses. The yacht has accommodation for both able-bodied and disabled sailors, with facilities for up to two wheelchair users. To date Sailing 4 all has taken well over 1500 guests out on there yachts, with over 500 of them being disabled and nearly 50 of those wheelchair users.
Our yachts have been designed with many special features, ensuring that everyone on board is able to take a full and active part in the running of the vessel

Start Point- Destinations

Yacht charters depart from the marina of Delta Phaliro. We have many routes and destinations to choose from all ports that we visit are handicap and wheel chair friendly. Access to and from the yachts is by specially designed wheel chair friendly gangway, giving the client a unique sense of independence.

An Example of a week long Charter

Wednesday, 12.00pm.
Day 1 Departure from Delta Phaliro to Epidauros. Travel time: 3.5 hours.
We suggest a visit to the ancient theatre of Epidauros.

Day 2 Thursday, on 12.00pm. Departure from Epidauros, and sailing for an hour, before stopping for a swim at Agistri Island. A further 2 hour trip during the afternoon, will bring us to at Poros Island.

Day 3 Friday morning, after 1 hour of sailing, the yacht will stop for a swim at the Tselevinia Islands. 2 more hours of sailing in the afternoon will bring you to Hermioni; there, a walk in the forest can be arranged through an accessible path.

Day 4 Saturday morning, the destination is Spetses Island. After 2.5 hours of sailing through Spetses and Samiopoula Islands, we will stop for a swim in a magnificent gulf. In the afternoon after 2.5 hours of sailing we will arrive at Plaka Leonidiou.

Day 5 Sunday morning, 2 hours of sailing towards Porto Heli, and a stop at Chinitsa for a swim, Final destination being Hydra Island after 2 hours of sailing.

Day 6 Monday morning, 2 hours of sailing towards the ruins of the Old Russian Naval Station at Poros, a swim and 2 hours of sailing, arrival at Perdika Aeginas.

Day 7 Tuesday, sailing to Moni Island, with a lunch time barbeque on the beach, and after 2 hours of sailing in the afternoon, arrival at Athens.

As you sail you can be involved as much as you wish and can get practical tutoring on sailing. If you want further lessons then in port you can enjoy theoretical lessons on Sailing, Navigation, Safety and Weather forecasting.

People with disabilities who would like to enjoy a weeks cruise or longer will need to contact our company in order to book the week(s) they wish.

The people with disabilities who wish to participate must for a group of 5 to 8 people (with or without disabilities) and contact our company in order to book the week(s) they wish. If there is availability, they have to send a fore payment to our bank account, that will amount to half of the total cost, and the rest will be payable upon embarkation.
The receipt of the fore payment, and a form of identification (i.e. passport) will be required for the commencement of the trip. If, for any reason, the participant will not make it at the agreed day of travel, the fore payment is not refundable.
When a week is booked, the dates and the yacht chosen cannot be altered unless a mutual exchange with other participants is managed.

An alternative proposition to chartering a yacht

Generally, those who are interested in chartering a yacht from Athens in order to visit the islands of the Saronic Gulf often face:

· Arriving at the marina of Alimos on Saturday noon, among hundreds of other people who try to leave too since most charters start on Saturdays
· Being Saturday noon, most markets are closed (with the exception of grocery stores), so if something is needed to be bought, waiting until Monday is necessary
· After long waits, the trips begin on the late afternoon, so the only available destinations are the nearest islands of Aegina and Poros, which during the weekends are filled with people. Available space at the ports is limited and the local taverns struggle to satisfy the never-ending customers. This results to many groups prolonging their stay at the marina of Alimos until Sunday afternoon and begin their trips then,
· Since most charters also end on Saturday morning, around 1500-2000 yachts almost simultaneously return to the marina of Alimos. Accordingly, from Thursday afternoon, the close destinations are also cramped and unsatisfying. In other words, paying for a 7-day vacation often results to the 5 actual days of sailing.
· The first and last impressions of the vacation are those of heat, crowds and bad services
· Also, airport fees for arrival and departure in weekends cost almost double than during weekdays.

For the above reasons, our company decided to create a more efficient vacation package, in order to better satisfy customers. We offer our yachts for weekly charters that start and finish in the middle of the weeks, from Wednesday to Thursday afternoon (or Wednesday morning).

· So, our customers get to pay less for airport fees (if they arrive from abroad)
· Arriving at the closer destinations on Wednesday afternoon results in more space for staying and better service due to smaller crowds
· Arrival and departure from the marina in Athens is pleasant, since it is quiet and lots of space exists. Shopping is also more broadly available.
· During the weekend, our clients are in further away destinations who are much less crowded and this results to a better quality of trips overall.

Also, in this way, if something needs to be mended on the yachts, or if something needs to be added to the inventory or equipment, all technicians, services and stores are available, eliminating the need to “patch” things on the yachts inefficiently.

Our company, having studied the most commonly faced issued that those who charter yachts face, has decided to offer a package that aims to the best satisfaction of the customers.

Furthermore, our company has also specialized some yachts in order to satisfy the needs of people with disabilities. The usual schedule of chartering (Saturday- Friday) had been proven inefficient, as the yachts had to find accessible spots in the already crowded marinas.
So, commencing the changes to avoid such problems, we also found that the overall package quality is better for weekly charters.

So, we offer all our yachts (both the specialized ones for people with disabilities and those not) for charters that commence on Wednesday noon, in order for our customers to have the best possible quality in the vacation.

The hull and deck has been ready a year now. A large part of the internal wood work is ready. The yacht started has wider and longer version of the “Lizzy 42”. The mold was modified to suit the new special requirements. The original plan was for the yacht to be capable of accommodating 8 in three cabins and the saloon area. She was also going to have three heads, one with wheel chair access.

This left very limited space for other vital areas of the yacht like the galley, chart table, storage space for all the equipment the yacht must carry and general comfort on-board. Always bearing in mind that the yacht is designed for universal use, including “wheelchair sailors”.
The changes, we have made to the design, limit the number of berths on board.
The yacht will now have two double cabins and three berths in the saloon area. The heads are now two, one of which has full wheelchair access. This uses as much space as a double cabin on most yachts. Part of the third cabin and head has been used to enlarge the galley and provide and a large storage area when the yacht is cruising or an extra berth when racing. Showers have been modified so the tray is self draining and the surfaces are all easier to clean and maintain. A holding tank will be added in the saloon behind the seating to handle the waste from both heads. The galley has been enlarged in order to offer more functionality and accessibility.

Due to the beamy aft section we have opted for twin rudders. This also means that we will reduce the rudder draft to 1.5 meters. This will not compromise the yachts sailng performance but will make mooring in the Greek harbors a lot easier. (Rocks and boulders sticking out from the under water quayside).

The yacht’s unique design features are too many to note here and they’re many more of them not fully addressed yet. If the work progresses according to plan the yacht may be ready for first sea trials September or October (2008).
She will of course need a lot of testing and final adjustments in order to function to the high standard that we have grown to expect from a yacht of this kind. Due to the larger than planed costs, we do not feel that just the charter of this yacht will cover the initial capital outlay and we will be seeking funding from sponsors wishing to help us promote the concept of “sailing for all”. The yacht will start its first sailing season as a charter, sail training and racing yacht the early of 2009.
